Ping! Talks on Talking Machines

PING! Talks on Talking Machines is an evening hosted by Bakken & Bæck exploring the role of sound and voice in intelligent products. From system sounds to voice interactions, we’ll examine how audio is changing product experiences and the expectations that creates for designers and technologists.

Who is speaking?

Tobias Bæck + Iris Cuppen

BB

The evening will open with a short introduction from Tobias Bæck, Founder and CEO of BB together with Iris Cuppen, Partner at BB. They’ll set the context for the event and reflect on how sound and voice have influenced the studio’s work across disciplines, including BB’s involvement in wysp.

Who is speaking?

Mark Larratt

wysp

Mark Larratt is the creator of wysp, a navigation platform designed for a world beyond screens. Using wysp as a starting point, he’ll reflect on the uneven character of contemporary AI and what it reveals about language, voice, and human–machine interaction, sharing observations and insights drawn from practice.

Who is speaking?

Louise K. Wilson

Artist, writer, and researcher

Louise K. Wilson explores how sound shapes our experience of space. She will close the evening with a reflection on machine sounds, inspired by her essay on “ping” as a defining sound of the twentieth century, and consider what these sounds might signal for the future.
